Allan Douglas Todd

Passed away peacefully at the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre on Thursday, April 2nd just shy of his 98th birthday on April 16. Beloved husband to Irene (deceased 2008) for 63 years, Allan was born in Merrickville, Ontario to Jean and Henry Todd and was surrounded by many caring aunts and uncles during his childhood. Allan is predeceased by his sisters Mary and Dorothy and his brothers Claire, Harry, and Teasdale. Allan was the devoted father to Anne (deceased), James (Jody), John (Beverley), Sheila (John McGlashan) and Alistair (Kelly). Allan has left his legacy of the importance of family to his 18 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He will be missed by his close cousin Georgia Allan, as well as his nieces and nephews in Canada, United States, Scotland and England.

Allan, graduating from the Ottawa Technical School, joined ERCO (Albright & Wilson) in Buckingham, Quebec. Originally hired as a laboratory technician, he went on to lead in the area of environmental affairs and was awarded a prestigious award from Albright & Wilson, Americas for his lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship.

Allan had a brief interruption in his professional career to serve as a Flying Officer with the RCAF 427 Squadron based at Leeming, England and flew his last of 31 sorties as Navigator on the Halifax Bomber aircraft in December of 1944.

It was during the wartime where he met and married his cherished wife Irene in Edinburgh, Scotland. Allan and Irene made their lifelong home in Buckingham, where he was active as a board member and steward of St. Andrew’s United Church, school board trustee, scout leader, curling club and historical society member. Allan & Irene enjoyed the family cottage where Allan took pleasure in fishing, sailing and windsurfing. Irene and Allan took many family visits to Scotland, Canada and the US. Allan continued his involvement with the 427 Squadron over the years attending many reunions and Base functions.

A special thank you goes out to all the staff at the PRVHC especially those led by Dr. Benoit Robert in Ottawa 2 East who provided such a supportive and caring environment for almost two years.

Décédé paisiblement au Centre de santé Perley et Rideau pour les anciens combattants, le jeudi 2 avril 2020, é l’aube de ses 98 ans, qu’il aurait célébrés le 16 avril. Tendre époux de Irene Purves (décédée en 2008) pendant 63 ans, Allan est né é Merrickville (Ontario). Fils de feu Henry Todd et de feu Jean Todd, Allan a été entouré de plusieurs tantes et oncles aimants durant son enfance. Allan a été prédécédé par ses sœurs Mary et Dorothy et par ses frères Claire, Harry et Teasdale. Il était le père dévoué de feu Anne, James (Jody), John (Beverley), Sheila (John McGlashan) et Alistair (Kelly). Allan laisse en héritage é ses 18 petits-enfants et 12 arrières petits-enfants l’importance des valeurs familiales. Il laisse dans le deuil sa cousine chérie Georgia Allan ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces au Canada, aux États-Unis, en Écosse et en Angleterre.
Après avoir gradué de l’École technique d’Ottawa, Allan s’est joint é la ERCO (Albright & Wilson) é Buckingham (Québec). Initialement embauché comme technicien de laboratoire, il est devenu un leader dans le domaine des affaires environnementales et s’est vu décerner une distinction prestigieuse par Albright & Wilson Americas pour son engagement continu envers la gérance de l’environnement.
Allan a vécu une brève interruption dans sa carrière alors qu’il a été lieutenant d’aviation au sein du 427e escadron de l’ARC basé é Leeming en Angleterre. Il a effectué le dernier de ses 31 vols en tant que navigateur é bord de l’aéronef Halifax Bomber en décembre 1944.
C’est en temps de guerre qu’il a rencontré et marié son épouse chérie Irène é Edinburgh (Écosse). Allan et Irene ont élu résidence é Buckinngham (Québec), oé� Allan a été membre actif et responsable du conseil d’administration de l’Église Unie St. Andrew’s, commissaire d’école, responsable scout, et membre du club de curling et de la société historique. Allan et Irène aimaient profiter du chalet familial, oé� Allan s’adonnait é la pêche, é la voile et é la planche é voile. Irene et Allan ont effectué de nombreuses visites familiales au Canada, en Écosse et aux États-Unis. Allan a poursuivi son implication au sein du 427e escadron, participant é plusieurs réunions et fonctions de base.
La famille souhaite remercier le personnel soignant du Centre de santé Perley et Rideau pour les anciens combattants pour l’excellence des soins prodigués; un merci spécial é Dr Benoit Robert et son équipe de l’aile Ottawa 2 EST, qui ont offert un environnement de soins et de soutien pendant presque deux ans.
